The Dreamiest Boutique Hotels in Europe • The Blonde Abroad

What defines a boutique hotel? In my mind, it’s a small, design-focused property that is usually not part of a chain. A lot of times, it’s a historical building that’s been restored with a really cool vibe.

If Airbnb isn’t available in a certain area or you’re wanting other amenities available at a hotel, while not skimping on the charm—staying at a boutique hotel might just be the way to go!

With so many cool properties around the world, I know it can be difficult to pick the right place to stay at!

How did I pick these ones? I found places full of personality and individuality, those that were lavish in local flavor, had seriously aesthetic interiors, and top of the line service. You’re welcome. 😉

Without further ado, here are the dreamiest boutique hotels in Europe!

Saariselkä, Finland

This Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is a family-friendly hotel, located 155 miles north of the Arctic Circle and gives you the once in a lifetime opportunity to stay in their Glass Igloos!

The Glass Igloo allows you to admire the Northern Lights and twinkling stars in the night sky. While it will be extra cold during the holiday season—it’s worth it as Santa opens his doors to the public at his Celebration House, for tons of festive fun!

Grindavik, Iceland

Carved into an 800-year-old lava field, The Retreat at Blue Lagoon is tucked right next to the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s most iconic sites.

The lagoon around the hotel is separate from the public Blue Lagoon, ensuring you total peace and privacy from the herds of travelers. If you choose from the Junior Suites, you get a choice of a view of solidified lava, moss-covered rock, or the blue water of the lagoon.

If you splurge on the Lagoon Suite, you have a terrace with direct access to your very own mineral-rich pool. Talk about dreamy!!

Nesjavellir, Iceland

The Ion Adventure Hotel is located about an hour outside of Reykjavik and is an eco-friendly hotel that has received a myriad of awards for both design and sustainability.

I stayed here a few years back and loved that it was situated right near the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park. This hotel was more of an “experience,” to say the least. It’s surrounded by hot springs—which provide geothermal hot water and energy to the hotel and its natural hot pool.

The restaurant offers Nordic specialties and panoramic views of surrounding majestic mountain ranges and lava fields. It’s another great option for those looking to see the Northern Lights fill the sky with color!

What was once an old music school and conservatory, the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam has been transformed into a contemporary hotel with a total greenhouse vibe.

It’s in a really unique location as it’s across the way from a few of Amsterdam’s major museums, and it’s one of the only luxury hotels in the area.
